Adirondack Railroad 30th Anniversary Success

Utica, NY – An estimated 100 former and present day volunteers recalled memories made creating today’s Adirondack Railroad. The celebration featured tributes to the many hundreds of people who have volunteered time, energy, and commitment to making travel on the historic rail line a memorable experience. Railroad themed music, food, and refreshments, and experiences were shared by all.

The event also marked the start of the operating season of the popular regular excursion layover train that brings people from Utica Union Station to the Old Forge region. Train passengers can take a shuttle bus from the Thendara Depot to downtown Old Forge and return in time for the return trip to Utica. A new feature this year on this and all trains operated by the Adirondack Railroad is a digital storybook that is available for download on both the android and apple platforms, providing information about the history of the communities and landscapes the railroad travels through.

The Adirondack Railway Preservation Society, Inc. (ARPS) operates the Adirondack Railroad. It is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer-based organization with main offices in Utica, New York. Since 1992 it has provided a memorable experience for more than 1.8 million passengers, operating on the former New York Central Adirondack Division located in upstate New York.
